This is the DUO-CAPTURE driver for Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition/Professional.
- This driver supports WDM and ASIO (Steinberg Audio Stream I/O Interface) 2.0.
* | You can also use this driver with a MME-compatible application. |
This driver has the following requirements.
- Operating System
- Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2 or later)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional (Service Pack 2 or later)

- Computer
- A computer with a USB connector that supports USB Specification Revision 1.1 or higher
* | Macintosh computers running Microsoft Windows are not supported. |
- If you change the USB connector to which the DUO-CAPTURE is connected, "Found New Hardware Wizard" may appear, but this is not a problem. For details refer to ""Found New Hardware Wizard" appears even though you installed the driver."
- On some computers, the driver does not load correctly if the DUO-CAPTURE is already connected when Windows is started up. As a result, it will not be possible to use the DUO-CAPTURE via USB. If this occurs, wait until after Windows has started to connect the DUO-CAPTURE.
- If the DUO-CAPTURE does not work correctly after resuming from Stand By or Hibernate mode, you should exit all applications that use the DUO-CAPTURE, and then disconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE and reconnect it.
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the DUO-CAPTURE is in use, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the DUO-CAPTURE, and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.
- If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the DUO-CAPTURE was being used, the DUO-CAPTURE may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, then disconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE and reconnect it.
- If notes are broken off prematurely, increase the "Audio Buffer Size."
If you want to set the latency low, decrease the "Audio Buffer Size."
- Audio clicks and pops may occur during playback or recording if you connect or disconnect other USB devices (such as USB memory) or turn another USB device on/off while using the DUO-CAPTURE.
- In some cases, you may not obtain the expected level of performance if you're using a USB-connected hard disk at the same time as the DUO-CAPTURE. Do not use a USB-connected hard disk as the storage destination for the audio that you're playing back or recording.

- Start up Windows with all USB cables disconnected.
(except for keyboard and mouse)
- Exit all applications before you begin the installation.
- Double-click Setup.exe.
* | If a "Install Program As Other User" dialog box appears, click [Cancel] to quit the installation and then perform the installation as an administrative account. |
- The message "DUO-CAPTURE Driver will be installed on your computer. ---" will appear. Click [Next].
* | If any other message appears, follow the directions of the message. |
- Click [Next] to begin installation.
- If the "Software Installation" dialog box appears, click [Continue Anyway] to proceed with the installation.
- The message "Ready to install the driver. ---" will appear.
* | If any other message appears, follow the directions of the message. |
- Use a USB cable to connect the DUO-CAPTURE to your computer.
- Wait until the lower right of the screen indicates "Found New Hardware" and the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears.
* | It may take some time for the "Found New Hardware Wizard" to appear. |
- If you are asked whether you want to connect to Windows Update, choose "No" and then click [Next].
- Choose "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click [Next].
- If the "Hardware Installation" dialog box appears, click [Continue Anyway] to proceed with the installation.
- If the "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" appears, Click [Finish].
- When the "Installation has been completed." message appears, installation has been completed.
Click [Close] to close the "Driver Setup" dialog box.
- If the "System Setting Change" dialog box appears, click [Yes] to restart Windows.
- Refer to "Before you begin," and make the necessary settings for using the DUO-CAPTURE. You won't be able to use the DUO-CAPTURE unless you make these settings.
* | If you are unable to use the DUO-CAPTURE after connecting it, it's possible that a problem has occurred. Refer to "Troubleshooting." |
Our tests show that occasional disruptions in the sound may occur if the following setting is not made. By making this setting, you may be able to alleviate the problem. Please be sure to make the setting before using the unit.
- Open the "Control Panel," and double-click "System."
* | If the above icon cannot be found, click the "Performance and Maintenance," and click the "System." |
- Click the "Advanced" tab, click [Settings] in "Performance."
- Click the "Advanced" tab.
- Select "Background services," and click [OK].
- Click [OK] to close "System Properties."
In order to obtain optimal performance from your applications, specify the input/output device for your applications as described below. (For details on making these settings, refer to the owner's manual for your application.)
* | Ensure that the DUO-CAPTURE and the application are set to the same sampling frequency. If the sampling frequency settings do not match, error messages may be displayed and recording/playback errors may occur. |
* | If you are unable to select the DUO-CAPTURE device, a problem may have occurred. Refer to "Troubleshooting." |
Audio input/output device
Of the total audio input/output channels provided by the DUO-CAPTURE, there are 2 INs and 2 OUTs

- When using the DUO-CAPTURE with an ASIO-compatible application such as Cubase, select "DUO-CAPTURE" as the ASIO setting for your application.
* | To prevent an audio feedback loop or double monitoring, make settings on your application to turn monitoring off or use ASIO Direct Monitoring. |
* | When using the DUO-CAPTURE with ASIO, we recommend that you set your application so that it does not use the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. (In order to decrease the load, and for convenience when changing Audio Buffer Size of the driver.) |
- Open the "Control Panel," and double-click "Sounds and Audio Devices."
* | If the above icon cannot be found, click the "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices," and click the "Sounds and Audio Devices." |
- Click the "Audio" tab, and in "Sound playback," select "OUT (DUO-CAPTURE)."
* | If the above WAVE ports cannot be selected, a problem may have occurred. Refer to "Troubleshooting." |
- Click [OK] to close "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties."
- Open "Windows Media Player," select an Audio file, and then play back the file.
- When changing driver settings, always make sure to first quit all applications using the DUO-CAPTURE. This is unnecessary when only checking the settings.
- Open the "Control Panel," and double-click "DUO-CAPTURE."
* | If the above icon cannot be found, click the " Switch to Classic View." |
- The "DUO-CAPTURE Driver Settings" dialog box will appear.
- To modify the settings, make the changes and click [OK]. To simply check the settings, be sure to click [Cancel] after viewing the settings.
- Audio Buffer Size
- You can adjust the audio input/output buffer size. (By default, this will be the sixth position from the left.)
- Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load.
Increasing the buffer size will lengthen the latency, but will make audio streaming more stable, and it will be less likely for audio clicks and pops to occur.
- In general, you'll probably want to decrease the buffer size for better realtime performance if you're playing a software synthesizer in real time, or if you're monitoring an audio input that's being passed through your DAW software.
Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.
- By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability.
* Note!
After you've changed the "Audio Buffer Size," make sure to restart all applications which are using the DUO-CAPTURE. Then, if you are using a program that offers a function for testing audio devices, we recommend that you run such tests.
Also, you may want to check to see if your application is one of those that provides a setting for adjusting the buffer size.
- ASIO Buffer Size
- This is the minimum buffer size that can be set by the ASIO application.
* | Depending on the application you're using, there may be other buffer sizes that can be set in addition to the minimum buffer size, and the buffer size shown here might not match the actual buffer size. For details on setting and checking the buffer size, refer to the owner's manual for your application. |

- "Use Smaller ASIO Buffer Size" check box
- If this check box is selected, the buffer size when using ASIO-compatible applications will be made smaller.
If you experience pops or clicks when this check box is selected, deselect this check box.
* | You must deselect this check box when adjusting the "Audio Buffer Size." |
- "Use ASIO Direct Monitor" check box
- Check this if you are using the ASIO Direct Monitor function with an ASIO-compatible application.

- Information
- This field shows the driver version.
- Delete the driver as described in "To uninstall."
- Install the driver as described in "Installation."
- Start up Windows with all USB cables disconnected.
(except for keyboard and mouse)
- Exit all applications before you begin the uninstallation.
- Open "Control Panel" and click "Add or Remove Programs."
- In the list, choose "DUO-CAPTURE Driver", and click "Change/Remove."
- The display will indicate "The installed DUO-CAPTURE Driver will be uninstalled." and click the [OK].
* | If any other message appears, follow the directions of the message. |
- When the message "Uninstallation was completed." is displayed, click [OK] to restart Windows.
- Are you logged onto Windows with the appropriate user rights?
- You must log on to Windows as one of the following users:
- the Administrator or other user with the privileges of the Administrators group
- a user whose Account Type is Computer administrator

- Driver Signing Options setting
- You may be unable to install the driver depending on the "Driver Signing Options" setting. Proceed as follows to change this setting.

- Open the System Properties dialog box.
- Click the Windows start menu, and from the menu, select Control Panel.
- In "Pick a category," click "Performance and Maintenance."
- In "or pick a Control Panel icon," click the System icon.
* | Depending on your setup, the System icon may appear directly in the Control Panel (Classic View). If so, double-click the System icon. |
- Click the Hardware tab, then click [Driver Signing].
The Driver Signing Options dialog box will open.
- In the Driver Signing Options dialog box, select "Warn" or "Ignore," then click [OK].
- Click [OK] to close the System Properties dialog box.
- Install the driver as described in "Installation."
* | Change the setting back to its previous state when you've finished installing the driver. |

- Was the driver installed correctly?
- If you can't use the DUO-CAPTURE even though you've installed the driver, the driver might not be installed correctly. Use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

- Could the DUO-CAPTURE be in use by other software?
- Exit all applications that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

- Is the DUO-CAPTURE WAVE device name displayed?
- If the device name is not displayed, exit all applications that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

- Did the computer enter a Stand By or Hibernate mode while the DUO-CAPTURE was connected?
- If the DUO-CAPTURE does not work correctly after resuming from Stand By or Hibernate mode, you should exit all applications that use the DUO-CAPTURE, and then disconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE and reconnect it.

- Was the USB cable disconnected and reconnected while the DUO-CAPTURE was being used?
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the DUO-CAPTURE is in use, it may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, exit all applications that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.

- On some computers, if the DUO-CAPTURE is connected while Windows starts up, the driver will not be loaded correctly, and it will not be possible to use the DUO-CAPTURE via USB.
- If this occurs, start up Windows before you connect the DUO-CAPTURE.
- Was the driver installed correctly?
-
- Could the DUO-CAPTURE be in use by other software?
-
- Did you make settings as described in "Before you begin" so that the DUO-CAPTURE driver could be used?
- The DUO-CAPTURE cannot be used unless you make these settings. Refer to the sections on "Before you begin."
-
- Could you have entered Stand By or Hibernate mode during playback or recording?
- If the DUO-CAPTURE does not work correctly after resuming from Stand By or Hibernate mode, you should exit all applications that use the DUO-CAPTURE, and then disconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE and reconnect it.
-
- During playback or recording, did you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable?
- If you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable during playback or recording, the DUO-CAPTURE will no longer be able to play back or record. Stop playback or recording, and then start playback or recording once again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, then disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.

- Try adjusting the audio buffer size of the driver
- If the size of the driver's audio buffer is too small, sound may not be produced, or it may be impossible to carry out normal playback and recording.
- In such cases, you should refer to "To change the settings," and increase the size of the buffer.

Problems may be solved by making the settings shown below.
- Try adjusting the audio buffer size of your software
- If your software allows you to adjust the audio buffer size, try changing the setting.
- Normally, clicks and pops can be eliminated by increasing the buffer size.
-
- Try adjusting the audio buffer size of the driver
- If your software does not allow you to adjust the buffer size, or if adjusting the buffer size in your software does not solve the problem, you may be able to solve the problem by changing the driver’s audio input/output buffer size.
- Try adjusting the buffer size as described in "To change the settings."

- Check the power management settings
- Open "Control Panel," click "Performance and Maintenance," and then click "Power Options."
* | If you’re using the Classic View, double-click the "Power Options" icon. |
- Click the "Power Schemes" tab, and in the Power Schemes field, select "Always On."
- Click [OK] to close "Power Options Properties."
- Windows Update / Microsoft Update
- You may be able to solve the problem by updating your system with "Windows Update" or "Microsoft Update" provided by Microsoft.

- "Performance Options" settings of System Properties
- If you wish to modify or verify the settings, use the procedure described in ""Performance Options" settings of System Properties."

- Do the sample rate settings match?
- You must set the sampling frequency that's been specified through the audio settings of the application so it matches the DUO-CAPTURE's sampling frequency.
* | After changing the setting of the DUO-CAPTURE's sampling frequency, quit all programs that are using the DUO-CAPTURE. Then, disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE. |

- Clicks or pops may occur in the sound if a LAN is operating
- Try disabling the LAN in the Device Manager. If this eliminates the clicks or pops, you may be able to solve the problem by updating your LAN driver or BIOS.

- "Hardware acceleration" in the Display Details
- Adjusting the setting for the graphic accelerator may eliminate noise appearing during playback and resolve other problems.

- Open the "Control Panel," and double-click "Display."
* | If the above icon cannot be found, click the "Appearance and Themes," and click the "Display." |
- Click the "Settings" tab.
- Click [Advanced] -> click the "Troubleshoot" tab.
- Adjust the "Hardware acceleration" slide and click [OK].
- Click [OK] in the "Display Properties" to close the dialog box. Afterwards, restart the computer.
- Was your computer experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network, at the same time as the DUO-CAPTURE was being used?
- If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load while the DUO-CAPTURE was being used, the DUO-CAPTURE may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again.
If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the DUO-CAPTURE, then disconnect/reconnect the USB cable of the DUO-CAPTURE.
- If you change the USB connector to which the DUO-CAPTURE is connected, "Found New Hardware Wizard" may appear.
- This is normal behavior, and does not indicate a problem. Use the following procedure to install the driver.

- Wait until the lower right of the screen indicates "Found New Hardware" and the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears.

- If you are asked whether you want to connect to Windows Update, choose "No" and then click [Next].
